Blue & Gold Christmas Card

Hi everyone, Neus here from @miss.meissa and in this tutorial I'll be showing you how to paint this beautiful blue and gold Christmas card.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Watercolor or mix media paper

  • Pencil

  • Blue watercolor (at least one shade)

  • Gold watercolour (or brush pen)

  • Paint brush or waterbrush

  • Water

  • Washi Tape

  • Optional: a blue brush pen, ruler

Step 1

Use washi tape to create a border for the area that will have the blue background. Then wet the whole surface with water and apply blue watercolor unevenly with one or few tones (combine brushstrokes and touches without letting it dry). Once finished let it dry.

Step 2

Remove the washi tape. It's okay if the line is not perfect, because we'll cover it later on! If you want, draw some lines to sketch out where the branches will go.

Step 3

With a fine brush, paint the center line of the first branch and small strokes on both sides to form the branches. Create the whole frame of branches and if you want add some twigs of holly.

Step 4

Use the pencil to sketch the text that will go over the background. You can also sketch it separately and transfer it with carbon paper or whichever transfer method you prefer.

Step 5

Paint the letters with gold watercolor.

Step 6

Paint the lines that frame the blue background (you can draw the lines with pencil and ruler beforehand if you'd like) in gold. Add gold details like pine cones, holly balls and stars etc.

Step 7

If you want, add the shadow to the letters with a blue marker. This will make the gold lettering stand out more.

I hope you liked the tutorial. If you try it, share it with #MissMeissaTutorial and #BSLBlogTutorial and tag me @miss.meissa so I can see it!
